Health Reform Bill
Another step in the right direction for HR 1636
HR 1636, referred to as the "Safe Food for Seniors" bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives last spring, has now been attached as an amendment to the America’s Affordable Health Choices Act (HR 3200), otherwise known as the health care reform bill. This progress provides clarification of the vague regulations that suggest that there are no minimal training requirements for a director of food services. Just last week, Speaker Pelosi and the House released their version of the healthcare bill which includes our amendment. The Senate is expected to finalize and release their version in coming weeks. Once both House and Senate pass their bills, a Conference Committee made up of Senators and Representatives will be responsible for merging a final product for President Obama to sign. DMA members and the Legislative Committee have worked very hard to gain support and build awareness on Capitol Hill to ensure our bill is included in the final bill. THANK YOU for your hard work!
