NC DMA shines at the Regional Meeting

Members of the North Carolina Dietary Managers Association showed up in full force to support the inaugural Regional Meeting in Greenville, SC. Thanks to everyone who could attend the conference and make NC DMA proud!!! If you missed it, shame on you for missing all the fun!

NC DMA is proud to announce the dates and locations for the next State Conference.

The Fall 2008 Conference will be held October 15– 17, 2008 at the Park Inn in Hickory, NC. See the attached agenda and registration forms on the Newsletter Tab.

Lisa King & James Keaten Continue Legislative Advocacy in Washington, DC

In October 2007 and February 2008, Lisa and Jim represented the NC DMA at the legislative meetings with members of the Senate and House of Representatives. These meetings were designed to introduce the DMA and our need for national recognition. The report of those meetings is as follows:

In October 2007, Lisa King and James Keaten met with Congressman Etheridge at the DMA hosted reception. In addition, they met with Legislative Assistant, Lynn Roberson in the Congressional office of Robin Hayes.

During their February follow-up visit, Lisa and James delivered informational packets and reception invitations to the offices of twelve of the thirteen Congressional Members. The only member that was not contacted, due to time and scheduling constraints, was Walter Jones.

In October 2007, Lisa King and James Keaten met with Senator Burr’s Legislative Correspondent, Karey L. Haywood at the Burr Congressional Offices. Senator Dole met with Lisa and James for about one hour. She was supportive of our goals and offered to help address our issues through legislation. Senator Dole assigned Kent Bacus, Legislative Assistant Projects Coordinator to work on our legislation.

During their February follow-up visit, Lisa and James again met with two of Senator Burr’s Legislative Aides. They were supportive of our organizations goals and offered to lend their assistance to Senator Dole’s office in support of any legislation brought forward. Lisa and James also held a second meeting with Kent Bacus and Casey Murphy in Senator Dole’s office. Senator Dole was not able to attend the meeting due to a Senate vote.

Mission Statement

Dietary Managers Association (DMA) is a national not-for-profit association established in 1960 that today has over 15,000 professionals dedicated to the mission: "to provide optimum nutritional care through food service management".

DMA is the premier resource for food service managers, directors, and those aspiring to careers in food service management. DMA members work in hospitals, long-term care, schools, correctional facilities, and other non-commercial settings. DMA achieves its mission through education, advocacy, networking, and research.
